This chapter presents an essay by W. E. B. Du Bois that deals with the issue of race. He raises questions such as: What is the real meaning of race. What has, in the past, been the law of race development? What lessons has the past history of race development to teach the rising Negro people? He describes the American Negro Academy, which aims at once to be the epitome and expression of the intellect of the black-blooded people of America, the exponent of the race ideals of one of the world's great races. He concludes by outlining a proposed creed for the Academy.Less

Exploring themes and lessons that recur and emerge from across the book, this chapter highlights tactics that would drive advances in equity and inclusion globally. Specifically, the chapter discussed how improvements in the collection, analysis and disaggregation of data could draw attention to disparities and sharpen interventions to promote development and resolve conflict. Further, the chapter emphasizes the need to increase the focus on outcomes and the results of interventions for different segments of society, as well as the importance of widening engagement with local partners and stakeholders to increase effectiveness. The chapter then telescopes out to explore the broader transformation that is needed in the international affairs field. It discusses the tremendous importance of ensuring diversity within the profession. Further, the chapter considers the need to examine how institutions of global governance can be reformed to better advance equity and inclusion. Finally, the chapter ends with a call to action, noting that the need to focus on diversity, equity and inclusion is fundamentally about the drive to ensure a prosperous, peaceful future globally.Less
