This chapter applies my approach to academic IT engagement in two institutional locations: university makerspaces and a distance education portfolio. My approach has three parts. First, I ask teachers to situate academic IT as a project—that is, as a system or service—or process and as a formal or informal proposition. I then ask teachers to use my heuristic for analysis to historicize, spatialize, and textualize the project or process at hand, to identify institutional forces at work in shaping decision-making. Finally, I ask teachers to consider the type of institutional engagement they want to pursue in particular situations, from relatively passive to active roles. My expectation is that the examples will serve as accessible models for institutional engagement.Less
