This chapter discusses how historical difference is created with archaeological “evidence” that provides an imagined identification between people and place. It shows that archeology has also been used to legitimate genocide in other contexts, such as the events surrounding the “Mountbuilder Myth.” This chapter also points out that archaeological evidence continues to be influenced by various peoples around the world in order to legitimate their nationalist claims.Less
