This chapter discusses the techniques for recording and analyzing magnetoencephalography (MEG) data and new approaches to MEG source localization based on beamforming. It addresses the general guidelines for end users of MEG and provides a basic introduction to neurophysiology underlying MEG signals and their measurement including participant factors, data collection, and data analyses, concentrating on beamforming. The chapter shows that MEG offers a means to directly and noninvasively measure the electromagnetic activity from neurons in the human brain. It suggests that the field of neuroimaging is helping to gain significant ground on understanding the underlying neural processes involved in perception and cognition and their relationships with behavior.Less
