This chapter discusses the social teachings of Buddhism and the diverse institutionalized forms of the Buddhist religion. It also examines the Ru doctrine or Confucianism and the notions of the Confucian tradition of an ideal state and an ideal society. The chapter suggests that the Buddhist and Confucianist tradition had no difficulties in assimilating the secular agenda of the modern nation state.Less
