Using Shakespeare’s Richard II, Shklar discusses the problem of conflicting roles and loyalties and links it to the concept of the political-theological concept and doctrine of the king’s “two bodies.” She locates Richard II as embodying a key moment in the transformation of the idea of divine kingship.Less
