This chapter describes the MacBride campaign, which was denounced by the Irish and British governments as the product of Noraid and Provo supporters, as a means of embarrassing the British government, and destabilizing the Northern Irish economy. It argues that Britain's hostility helped place Irish policy literally ‘in the dock’ as hearings on the MacBride Principles were conducted in states and cities across the USA, thus circumventing Washington and its long–standing policy of non–intervention in internal British matters.Less
