This chapter discusses the organisational and managerial practices of Greek shipping enterprises during the twentieth century, seeking to answer why these structures changed very little over the course of the century, and how their organisational structures gave them a positive, competitive advantage in an internationalised shipping industry. The author is particularly interested in the family-oriented nature of the greek shipping industry in comparison to other nations. The chapter also contrasts Greek-owned shipping enterprises during the interwar years with the post-war years that followed.Less
