This chapter examines the reactions of three French authors to the fragmentation or the dépassement of the subject as it turns into the post-human: Maurice G. Dantec, Fabrice Neaud, and Nicolas Jones-Gorlin. It analyses Dantec's apocalyptic, paranoid vision of the present and the near future whereby a concept of networks have replaced the individual liberty of the subject. These networks control, manipulate, and otherwise punish any individual who seeks to express his or her independence. The chapter also considers Neaud's reaction to what he perceives as a kind of homonormativity through fragmentations and distortions of the subject position. Neaud expresses this reaction most clearly in the third volume of his graphic novel. Finally, the chapter discusses Jones-Gorlin's 2002 novel, Rose Bonbon and its exploration of the forbidden sexuality of pedophilia.Less

This book explores changes in the representations and depictions of masculinity and masculine sexualities in contemporary France. It looks at the manifestation of post-modern masculinity and male sexuality in the French context by analysing the works of Marc-Édouard Nabe, Michel Houellebecq, Maurice Dantec, and Fabrice Neaud. In addition, the book considers Nicolas Jones-Gorlin's novel, Rose Bonbon, which deals with the forbidden sexuality of pedophilia, as well as works by Guillaume Dustan and Erik Rémès to see how notions of HIV infection and the practices associated with the choices of bareback or unsafe sex contribute to subject-formation in some contemporary queer literature.Less
