Much of UFO conspiracism mimics the New World Order ideas prevalent in Christian patriot circles. The most distinctive of the variants concerns so-called inner-earth motifs that place the alien presence underground. Dulce proved compatible with long-standing ideas about an inner-earth domain, ideas that derived from crank-science notions of a hollow earth as well as motifs in occultism. The claims of crank science partially overlapped with other ideas rooted in occultism. The interrelationship of inner-earth and reptilian themes is complex. The link stems from their associations with death and evil. In the hands of the reptoid conspiracists, therefore, legends such as the Dulce stories take on a millennial significance, for Dulce and underground warrens that have become the locus for the final conflict. The battles are thus the prelude to a subterranean Armageddon.Less
