This chapter provides a discussion on the role of dynamic information in face recognition along with an investigation of how the accuracy and robustness of recognition is affected by the motion-based information in faces. It also offers information on several studies, showing that visual-based speech-reading ability can be improved by the supplemental information provided by speaker-specific facial speech movements. The chapter also discusses the role of representation enhancement hypotheses in face recognition and emphasizes that facial motions, which convey social information, comprise part of the human neural code for identifying faces. The need for further research is raised to bridge the gap between face representations in the ventral stream and face representations in the dorsal stream.Less
