This chapter analyses the satiating effect of pancreatic insulin. A series of experiments aimed at assessing insulin as a putative prandial satiety factor have been made and the chapter identifies the mechanism of action. The results of these investigations are reviewed. The chapter further discusses the status of insulin as a physiological satiating hormone and its potential for the treatment of human hyperphagia in obesity and eating disorders.Less
