This chapter discusses the role of economic torts in commercial law and the potential for further development. The primary function of economic torts is the protection of economic interests. However, economic torts are not entirely concerned with protecting economic interests; neither are all economic interests protected. Scholars of law have a responsibility to explore the complexity of this field more closely, instead of having it reduced to another accessory for litigation. The human rights dimension in economic torts also needs to be considered, as well as the right to freedom of speech, and the right to freedom of assembly and association.Less
