This chapter discusses the ongoing and iterative analysis of data within qualitative research. These analyses are waves of interpretation, beginning with the organization of the data and assurances of the data's accuracy, followed by the documentation of emerging ideas from the data. These data are labeled as codes and gain prominence as they become increasingly evident in the data sources. Codes that have a relationship with other codes are identified, with the nature of that relationship explored and labeled, forming categories. This process is facilitated by frequent close reading of the data and by looping back through data collection. Through the use of the desegregation study, the chapter further illustrates the iterative and cumulative analytical process.Less
