Abstract

This book conveys an eventful history of the Late Archaic hunter-gatherer interactions that unfolded at one of the largest and most elaborate shell mound complexes in the southeastern United States. Hunter-gatherers have long been represented as peoples without history and Archaic period shell mounds as gradual, inconsequential accumulations of food waste.
