This introductory chapter explains the coverage of this book, which is about policies and practice for tackling the problem of health inequalities. This book examines the research and policy context of health inequalities and analyses health inequalities pathways, policies and practice throughout the lifecourse. It also highlights the many limitations that exist to the current evidence base of health inequalities policies and identifies the pathways that give rise to health inequalities and on policy interventions to address those pathways.
