This book is based on data from a new comparative study of Youth Unemployment and Social Exclusion in Europe (YUSE) data. The various chapters included in this book investigate the situation of unemployed youth (aged 18 to 24-years-old) and their risk of social exclusion. It is important to differentiate between unemployment, poverty, deprivation, marginalisation and social exclusion. The different chapters are also based on a common dataset from surveys in ten countries of nearly 17,000 young unemployed people. An overview of the chapters included in this book is provided as well.

Keywords:   youth unemployment, social exclusion, Europe, poverty, deprivation, marginalisation
