Women with mental health diagnoses often have had a series of abusive and traumatic experiences throughout their lives, including intergenerational trauma. Telling a story of one woman's journey, based on the authors’ combined practice experiences, the chapter explores how the constellation of symptoms that may result from multiple and intergenerational trauma can be seen as psycho emotional adjustments to trauma. Using Thomas’s (2007) work on psycho emotional disablism, the chapter further explores the stigma and the negative reactions of others, which results in further distress and trauma adjustments. The pivotal role of intergenerational trauma and the reactions of family, community and services are identified in the exploration of this cycle of trauma, psycho emotional adjustments, reactions to behaviour associated with adjustments and psycho emotional disablism
