This chapter offers a broad perspective, a meta-analysis as it were, on the evolution of street-level theory, highlighting three key approaches that have contributed to the advance of the field. Specifically, the discussion traces the evolution of street-level theory and research as it has developed along three related, but distinctive lines of inquiry: policy-focused studies, management and governance studies, socio-political and welfare state studies. This chapter offers an assessment of these developments and their implications for the future of the field.
