This chapter introduces the aims of the book, which are to understand ‘governance’ structures within communities and examine how connected parish councils have been to wider interests; to examine connectivity to local authorities and other policy making apparatus; and to look at the extent to which greater connectivity is a means of delivering enhanced democracy and consensus around planning decisions.
