This chapter examines Tony Harrison's approach to writing about the Holocaust. It discusses a quotation from Harrison which posits Hiroshima bombing and the Holocaust as loci for his poetry and analyses some of his works including the poems The Gaze of the Gorgon and The Loiners and the play The Misanthrope. It suggests that Harrison's approach is similar to that Primo Levi in that he engages with the linguistic awkwardnesses which should be inherent in any competent example of Holocaust or post-Holocaust literature.Less
